OFFICIAL Card - Great Britain

Just last week I saw this card in the gallery at Postcrossing and put it in my favourites. I don't favourite many cards for the simple fact there are too many cards I like and too little time to browse through them. Like Pinterest, it interests me but I know how much time I could spend/waste (depending on how you look at it) on it.

To my surprise though I received this card yesterday.

My love for the Queen started when I wrote her a letter in the early 1970's. To this day I have the response that her Lady in Waiting sent to me. Over the years I have seen her several times, about a dozen or so, when she has come to Canada. And wrote her again a few years ago with the kids. Funny enough, writing to congratulate her on her Jubilee was on the to-do list for March Break but we just got too busy. I saw her most recently in 2003.  I used to "camp" out in front of the Royal York Hotel on my way home after work. Because of the timing she was usually arriving back to the hotel at the same time to I guess change and rest before her evening functions. Being pregnant at the time helped as the others in the crowd - surprisingly never that many - would usually let me closer to the front to get a better views! A glimpse yes, but thrilling nonetheless. The highlight of my Queen watching/stalking was being invited through a well-connected friend at the time, to a State Dinner held in her honour in 1997. Some days I still can't believe that I ate the same meal as her and was within 50 feet the whole time! Who cares if there were 600 odd other people in the room! My biggest regret in life was after the dinner they had a walkabout and she was literally within arms reach of me. I was so awestruck I couldn't say anything so she just walked by. I mean even in hindsight what do you say??? I am surprised I didn't just start blubbering about how much I love her LOL!!!

Needless to day this card Eileen sent me totally made my day. Even more when she tells me she just picked these cards up. Perfect timing all around!

  1. That is a beautiful image. I love pictures of the Queen, especially in her younger years.

    Cheers
